A not so jolly Rodgers outcome is creating a seismic shift in the Week 2 NFL odds and line movement. The Achilles tendon tear that brought about the end of the season for Aaron Rodgers in his first series as quarterback of the New York Jets is causing oddsmakers to abandon ship when it comes to assigning betting lines to the Jets.
Even though the Jets were 22-16 winners over the reigning AFC East champion Buffalo Bills without the services of their four-time NFL MVP QB, the betting line on their Week 2 game at the Dallas Cowboys was changing in dramatic fashion. That game is now displaying the biggest spread, smallest total and is causing the largest spread shift of any Week 2 game.
Let’s take a gander at all the major line shifts involving this weekend’s games. First, though, we’ll look at the current NFL lines for Week 2.

NFL online betting sites appear to be expecting some low-scoring games in Week 2. Of the 15 remaining games on the docket, 12 saw their totals diminish from the opening lines.
Road clubs are favored in 8 of the 15 games. Away teams were 12-4 against the spread in Week 1. Eight games are showing lines of a field goal or less, while two are carrying spreads in which the odds exceed a touchdown.

Jets vs Cowboys Makes Massive Spread Shift In NFL Line Moves
When the opening line came out on the Jets at Cowboys game, Rodgers was walking around on two healthy legs. Dallas, coming off a crushing 40-0 road victory at the New York Giants, was set as a 3-point pick to complete the New York sweep in the NFL Week 2 opening odds.

The broadcast didn't show this, but you can see Rodgers tries to plant his foot, and he quickly realizes it's over.
This entire clip is so crushing.

Then Buffalo’s Leonard Floyd sacked Rodgers on the first series of Monday’s Bills vs Jets game and the season went into free fall for New York’s AFC squad. The Super Bowl 58 odds of the Jets lengthened from +1400 to as high as +6500 at some US betting sites.
The line on the Jets at Cowboys came to grow to its current status of Dallas -9.5, surpassing the Raiders vs Bills (Buffalo -8.5) as the biggest spread on any Week 2 game. The Cowboys were 3-3 ATS last season when favored by more than a touchdown.
Small Spread Showing Shifts In NFL Line Movement
There was also some line shifting at work involving the two games that are sharing the spot for the shortest spread in the NFL Week 2 odds. At the outset of the week, the Green Bay Packers were 1-point road favorites at Atlanta. Indianapolis was the 1.5-point road chalk at Houston.
Both of those games have since swung in the opposite direction. The Falcons are now 1.5-point home favorites over the Packers. Green Bay RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) is questionable for this game.
Likewise, it’s the Texans who are a 1.5-point pick at home against the Colts in a game featuring rookie QBs CJ Stroud (Houston) and Anthony Richardson (Indianapolis).
It’s the first time in 25 games that the Texans are favored. Houston was 2-0 ATS against Indianapolis last season. Atlanta is 3-2 ATS in the last five games as the home chalk.
Dallas and New York Are Moving It
Opening the season with successive games against the NFL’s New York clubs, the Cowboys won and covered against the Giants as a 3-point road chalk. Dallas is 3-1 ATS in the last four games as an away favorite.
At home, the Cowboys were 3-2 ATS last season as a favorite. The 6.5-shift in the betting line on this game in favor of Dallas is the largest spread move in the Week 2 odds.

NFL Line Movement Predictions Not Adding Up
In terms of total movement in the Week 2 NFL odds, there’s been plenty of action on that front. Most of it’s been in the negative direction. The over/unders on the Seahawks vs Lions and Bears vs Buccaneers each shortened by three points.
The Cleveland vs Pittsburgh total lowered from 42.5 to 38.5. That’s the same total as the Jets vs Dallas game, giving those two contests the share of the smallest total for Week 2. However, the game in Dallas was originally established with a total of 45 points. That 6.5-point decrease represents the largest total move among Week 2 games.
Big Numbers Expected from Chiefs
There’s no surprise seeing the Kansas City Chiefs as part of the game with the biggest total of Week 2. The Chiefs vs Jaguars contest is set with an over/under of 51.5 points.
It’s the fifth time in seven games the total for a Chiefs game was set at 50+ points. Certainly, the anticipated return of All Pro TE Travis Kelce from a hyperextended knee will be boosting the KC offense.

However, what is a bit surprising is the total on the Seattle vs Detroit game. It has shortened from 50.5 to 47.5 points.
Last season, those two teams combined for 93 points in a 48-45 Seahawks victory. In their previous meeting in the 2021 season, the Seahawks were 51-29 winners. In NFL history, there’s never been three successive games between the same two teams in which the total has reached 80 points in all of them.
