Sadly, we don’t get to see Tiger Woods tee it up very often these days, with the 48-year-old making just one appearance on the PGA Tour in 2024, at the Genesis Invitational in February. Even then, he withdrew from the tournament after a first-round 72 because of the flu, but he will be in the field when this year’s Masters gets underway at Augusta on Thursday.

Woods hopes to start playing “once a month”

Speaking ahead of the first major of the season, he admitted that he “aches every day” but also spoke of his hope this week’s event could help him get into the habit of playing competitive golf semi-regularly.

Only 5 players have ever completed the modern Career Grand Slam: Sarazen, Hogan, Player, Nicklaus, Woods. Only 2 players have ever completed it multiple times: Nicklaus and Woods (both 3 times). Only 1 player has ever held all 4 Majors at the same time: Eldrick Tiger Woods. pic.twitter.com/TTogF4kU4C

“I wasn’t ready to play (at the Genesis Invitational),” Woods claimed. “My body wasn’t ready. My game wasn’t ready. And I thought that once a month would be a really nice rhythm. Hasn’t worked out that way. But now we have major championships every month from here through July. So, now the once a month hopefully kicks in.

When was the last time Tiger Woods won the Masters?

His last major tournament win came in 2019 at the Masters.

Tiger’s Masters and major record

Tiger had looked set to break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major victories until a series of crippling injuries derailed his career. Woods won 14 majors by the age of 32, with his first of them coming at the 1997 Masters when he was just 21.

He then won another 13 majors in the next 11 seasons, including his second, third and fourth victories at Augusta in 2001, 2002 and 2005 respectively.
